Schedule Planning on Vantagepoint
If the Resource Planning module is activated, you can use the Schedule tab in Hubs > Projects > Plan to view and edit the start and finish dates for the work breakdown structure (WBS) elements for the selected project.
The Schedule tab displays project schedule information on the left and a Gantt chart on the right. Along with the scheduled dates, the Gantt chart displays bars that represent the project's WBS elements, making it easy for you track progress and risks. If Show Critical Path is turned on, the Gantt chart displays the critical path of your project in red for any levels that directly impact the end date.
On the Schedule tab, you can use the Gantt chart to do the following:
-
Change task durations and shift dates: If you have project modification rights, you can move the Gantt bars on the chart to change the durations of WBS elements or shift the start and end dates without changing the durations. As you move the bars, updated Plan Start and Plan End dates display on the left grid and on all planning grids for the project. If the selected element impacts any parent or child levels, those dates also update.
-
Create dependencies: After you create a basic plan, you can set up relationships, or dependencies, between WBS elements in the plan. For example, you can specify that Task 01 must finish before Task 02 can start. Establishing schedule dependencies makes it possible to do the following:
- Quickly understand project schedule and relationships by viewing the Gantt chart without having to read through dates.
- Efficiently update the project schedule when dates change on a project, since all of the impacted successor dates will automatically update as well (not just the parent/child relationships).
- Track your project's critical path and overall schedule and identify potential schedule risks.
- Understand which dates can change without impacting the project completion date.
-
Export the chart to use in proposals and contracts: Vantagepoint supports the following file types: PDF, PNG, Excel, iCal, Microsoft Project.
