Unit Planning on Vantagepoint
If the Resource Planning module is activated, you can use the Units tab on the Plan form to assign units to work breakdown structure (WBS) elements and to enter planned quantities for those unit assignments. As you enter unit quantities, the planning grid automatically updates totals and other summary values for the individual unit assignment and for each WBS element above the assignment in the plan structure.
On the Units tabs of the Plan form in the Projects hub, you can:
- Review planned unit quantities for the full life of the project and at any work breakdown structure level. The Unit planning tab gives you the option, for a project that is underway, to display units by calendar period for the life of the project, for past periods as well as current and future periods.
When you display a project in the grid, you can expand the work breakdown structure to display the lower-level work breakdown structure elements and, at the lowest level, the resource assignments themselves. For each resource, you can see the planned unit quantities for the work breakdown structure element, broken down into the calendar periods that you have specified for the grid. The amounts for each calendar period roll up from the resource level to each of the work breakdown structure levels.
- Enter planned units for individual assignments or enter summary unit amounts for allocation to individual assignments. Use the Units grid to enter planned amounts for those assignments:
- Enter the unit quantities in the calendar period fields.
- Enter an amount in the ETC Quantity field. Vantagepoint allocates the quantity to the calendar periods for the unit assignment.
- Transfer the unit assignments. If you assign unit quantities on a project and later want to transfer all or part of the assignments to another unit or account, you can use the Reassign Units dialog box to make these adjustments. Reassignment only moves the planned quantities either from one unit to another or from one unit to a different account. It does not change how those planned unit quantities are scheduled. If you also need to change how the planned quantities are distributed across calendar periods, you can do that after you reassign them.
